11 Tips To Use Social Media To Promote Content

Do you want to have search engine, indexing bots and site visitors coming back to your website?  Then you have to deliver fresh, engaging, value add content via your website on a daily, weekly, basis.

Delivering fresh, engaging, value add content, requires hours of work. You have to research, analyze, and create compelling content. That’s what will help you reach whatever content marketing goals you have.

You will consume good deal of time (and effort) creating terrific, value add content. Then you will spend as much time (or more) promoting this content.

This is where social media channels come in.  Social media is where spend about 20% of your day. Why not use that same 20% time slot engaging on social media channels and marketing your content?

Create an engaging, supportive featured image for your post.  Use separate images for each of the main points in your Blog post content.

When you repeatedly share such Blog post content on your social media channels rotate these images.

Okay so you’re writing great content, but does your Title grab a reader’s attention in social media?

To promote your content on social media well, create engaging, attention grabbing titles.

Don’t settle down with one title.  You post your content repeatedly on social media channels. Each time you post the same content, you must use a different, engaging, arresting, title.

Check to see which headlines give you the most engagement on a social channel.  Always do A/B testing to figure this out.

Don’t forget to do Title to Social network mapping when documenting engagement.  This is because different social networks have differing participants with differing tastes.

Every social media marketer is competing to catch a reader’s eyes. You want effective social media content promotion right? Then optimize your post content for that social media channel.

On Facebook you can:

  • Upload relevant, images that grabs viewer’s eyeballs

Post the same content many times, in different social media channels.   Data studies suggest you will get terrific engagement when you do so.

What you must have is different headlines, and engaging images for each such post.

That way you engage with a lot more of your social media followers.  While they do not know the link provided goes to the same content posted earlier.

Do you have employees who are already sharing your content, on social media channels? Do have a business partners or users who are you brand advocates?

Encourage them to do so more regularly. Get them to formalize the promotion of you content by rewarding them in some way.  If you haven’t got an employee / partners advocacy program in place. Now is a good time to start.

Measure social media sharing by brand advocates. Reward their work in a concrete way.  There are many tools available that make it easy to do this.

Take a look at brand advocacy tools such as GaggleAMP and SocialChorus. These two tools are great to track social media sharing by brand advocates.

Leverage Social Media Communities

An employee advocacy program is one way of leveraging communities. Leveraging communities, utilizes relationships to promote your content. However, you first have to have a community to do so.

There are already more than two million communities that exist within LinkedIn alone.  Other communities exist on Twitter (chats), Google Plus, Pinterest, and Facebook Groups.

Join relevant communities. Become a value add ( and engaging ) community member.  This gives you the chance to promote your content to a targeted, focused audience.

These audiences can be in the hundreds, thousands, or even more! The largest LinkedIn group has more than one million members!

The Content Marketing Forum on LinkedIn focuses on content marketing and content promotion.

All communities have rules for posting content to them.  Most exist to add value to community members. Done by offering them access to high quality, relevant content.

Make sure your content adds value to the community.  The community owner (or admins) can boot you out if it does not.  Spammy or Salesly posts get deleted. Repeat offenses gets the poster booted out of the community.

Experiment With Content Creator Communities

Content creator communities is not everyone’s cup of tea.

Look at communities like Triberr, Social Buzz Club, and Viral Content Buzz. They exist outside regular social media channels.

They exist for the sole purpose of bringing together content creators. They enhance your social media promotion.

Here’s a simple rule of thumb to measure which one (or all) that you should join.  Is the content you discover on one of these sites worth curating?  Then this might be a good site to consider promoting your own content on.

When it comes to promoting content, social media is one of the most powerful tools available. Most content marketers fail to maximize its potential.

Use one or all of these 11 ways to promote your social media content.  You will be well on your way to generating a ton of traffic from social media channels to your content.
