Tweeting Is Great For Business

Twitter is a great marketing tool that is – Free to use and also tweeting is great for business. The only cost is your – Time.

If you are short on time ( and you should not be when working to promote your business ) you can always hire one of the many competent social media marketers available to Tweet about your business for you. Make a plan for marketing your business via Tweets, then stick to the plan.

Your business can get some great exposure when you do.

There is a downside ( isn’t there always – sigh ) you can also damage your business via social media marketing pretty quick if you are not careful about what you tweet.

Here are a few tips for making your business successfully visible via Tweeting.

Tip 1: Definitely expose your human side in your tweets

Twitter is a huge global community built of human beings, definitely show your human side to them.  Surprisingly it will give your – Business – a huge boost. People love to interact, and buy services or products from other – People.  When the Twitter sphere begins to believe in and trust you your business grows.

Hence, while pushing your business, carefully blend in information about things that matter to you. The engaging things your kids do or say while at the family picnic or while watching TV.  Any awards or recognition you’ve received. Let your tweets be friendly and conversational. Shown a bit of emotion now and then it assures people that you are – people – too. All of this will grow your business.

As a counter point, please do not be too human, for example sharing information that you would never share in the real-world, brick and mortar, business place.

Keep:

  • Intimate health issues
  • Controversial or perhaps offensive material

Strictly out of your – Business growth – tweets.

You simply would not do that in a brick and mortar business place, hence do exactly the same in the Twitterverse.

Tip 2: Be aware of how you write

There are those who write well and those who do not.  You need not be a literary genius to use Twitter, but it certainly helps if you have basic English grammar and spelling skills. Use a great editor to create your Tweets in.  Editors automatically add a degree of quality to English grammar and spelling which you may not be able to by yourself. A tweet with a ton of spelling mistakes gets noticed for – all the wrong reasons.

Remember that while your tweets should be friendly and human, they must not reflect the language of a fifteen year old.  No one really wants to do serious business with a fifteen year old.  The language constructs of your tweets must reflect a professional promoting their business, interleaved with just the right touch of being human.

Tip 3: Be willing to share

Everyone loves to read good news. If you’ve any good news in your business ( or personal ) life do share this tastefully in your tweets.

Share Links:

  • To your website
  • Your Blog
  • Local News
  • Anything that you think would be of interest to your followers

This is a great way to get conversations going.  Remember to explain what the link is about though, otherwise followers are a lot less inclined to click a link.  Do not tweet the same links over and over, followers get bored pretty quickly.

Retweet Friends Links:

Your friends will be grateful and reciprocate ( this is great for business ). Please make sure that you click the link and have a quick read first to ensure that the material being re-tweeted is appropriate for your followers. If you do not do this is there is the danger that you can inadvertently re-tweet a link that is irrelevant or worse offensive.

Tip 4: Participate in the community

Twitter is a community, millions of members strong. This community is pretty intolerant to tweeters who constantly advertise.  The 80:20 rule is a great one to apply to your tweets, 80% of your tweets should be non-promotional and 20% of your tweets can be self promotional.   If this ratio can be honed downwards – 90% : 10% – Great.

Listen and join in with what people are saying. Twitter is a network of conversations, it’s always great to listen and responds to tweets that are of special interest to you. A simple rule of thumb, don’t do anything on Twitter that you would not do at a brick and mortar event.

Tip 5: Mind the language you use in tweets

Please do not use offensive language in a tweet irrespective of how strongly you feel. Even mild slang or offensive words can cause a lot of harm to your business. No business was ever promoted using offensive language. It’s just unprofessional.

Tweet to answer customer questions. Solve their issues in a tweet they would love you for it. Many businesses use Twitter as a customer services tool very effectively.  This is a two sided knife though, never ever be curt to any customer via a Tweet, this can back fire horribly.  Always deliver the best possible impression of your business because the Twitterverse has a very long memory.

To Conclude:

  • Try to enjoy yourself when Tweeting
  • Get ready to laugh at yourself now and then
  • Find out and embrace all that is good about Twitter
  • Work at creating new friendships
  • Build business contacts when they come your way
  • Imbibe the strong community spirit of Twitter
  • The Twitterverse will repay you handsomely when you do
